The first-year formula uses total first-year investment as its denominator. Multiply the result by 100 for a percentage. A metric that divides only by setup cost will give a different number, so name the denominator on your report.
For a lift from 30% to 35%, enter 0.05, or five percentage points. Relative lift is 5 ÷ 30 = 16.7%; entering 0.167 as the absolute lift would greatly overstate extra jobs. If the control rate is zero, report percentage-point lift and leave relative lift undefined.

Format rate inputs and the ROI output as percentages. Keep monthly volume nonnegative, rates between 0% and 100%, and setup and running costs nonnegative. When setup plus annual running cost is zero, ROI percentage is undefined; report dollar benefit instead of dividing by zero.
The margin-aware formula matters when a longer quote follow up sequence offers discounts or attracts smaller jobs. Compare total expected contribution per eligible estimate in each group. Do not multiply the lift alone by the new margin when discounts also reduce profit on jobs that would have closed under the control.

Which estimates belong in the close-rate denominator?
Count all eligible estimates assigned to each group at the same starting point, and give every estimate the same observation window. Count wins only from those estimates. Keep delivery failures and later opt-outs in their original group so the result measures the whole process, including the parts that fail.
Define a win before launch. For example, use an accepted estimate linked to a booked job that has not been canceled by day 60. The 60-day window is a worked-example assumption, not a trade benchmark. Choose a window that covers your normal decision cycle, then track later completion, collection, and reversals separately.

How do you measure close-rate lift per sequence?
Assign comparable estimates to business-as-usual and one new sequence before follow-up starts, then compare mature close rates. Change one material feature at a time, such as adding a consented text or a call task. A sequence's lift belongs to the whole assigned path; closes after its last message do not prove that message caused them.
For a small team, start with two groups. Random assignment within service line and quote-value band reduces selection bias.
